Air Filter Monitoring
Enhance Efficiency with Real-Time
Filter Monitoring
Over time, air filters can become clogged as they trap dust, dirt, and other contaminants. A clogged filter significantly reduces airflow, forcing systems to work harder and leading to decreased efficiency, higher energy consumption, and equipment failure. In HVAC systems, clogged filters can result in poor indoor air quality, potentially causing health issues such as allergies or respiratory problems. In industrial or automotive applications, clogged filters can reduce performance, increase fuel consumption, and lead to costly repairs.
Traditionally, air filters are replaced based on a scheduled maintenance plan or visual inspection. This approach can be inefficient, as filters may clog faster than expected or be replaced prematurely while still functioning effectively. Manual inspections can be time-consuming and unreliable, potentially leading to missed issues or unnecessary downtime. In many cases, filters are replaced only after a noticeable decline in system performance, which may have already caused damage or increased energy costs.
Today, pressure sensors are increasingly used to monitor air filters in real-time, providing accurate data on airflow and filter conditions. By measuring the pressure drop across a filter, these sensors can detect when to replace it. This automated approach allows for proactive maintenance, ensuring filters are replaced at the optimal time to maintain system efficiency and air quality while reducing maintenance costs and extending equipment lifespan.
Unique Capabilities for Air Filter Monitoring
The NimbleSense architecture was designed to maximize performance while also being flexible enough to easily insert application-specific capabilities. The result is a pressure sensor architecture with a very clear signal and practically no noise, leading to incredible accuracy, TEB, and long-term stability. Specific to HVAC systems, we have implemented these additional capabilities:
Multi-Range™ technology
A single sensor can accommodate up to eight different pressure ranges to effectively measure pressure across a wide variety of air flow environments; change pressures ‘on the fly’
Advanced digital filtering
Multi-order filter that leverages advanced filtering capabilities at the front end to eradicate critical noise caused by fans, blowers, or other sources before they can impact system performance
Integrated 50/60 Hz notch filter
Neutralizes any power grid spikes or noise coming from AC devices that could interfere with sensor accuracy or system performance
Position insensitivity
Maintains consistent and highly accurate handheld readings regardless of movement or the physical orientation of the measurement device; rated with a positional sensitivity to within 0.25 pascal
Integrated closed loop control
Eliminates the need to design an external closed loop control system, which simplifies product design and reduces loop delays by up to 100x
Superior’s NimbleSense architecture enables us to develop unique products optimized for different markets. For the HVAC market, we have created the following products. Our architecture is very flexible, so we can also develop custom solutions for your application.
